When an email is received by the Rocketseed server, it is scanned by our software to detect if there is already Rocketseed branding within the mail. If images from earlier emails are detected, the image is removed from the mail and the table cell holding the image is collapsed and the design of the signature looks as though the image was not there at all.
Rocketseed removes embedded images from mail chains to prevent the size of emails in long email chains increasing exponentially. It can also make it easier to scroll through a long email chain so they you can see the message body more easily when viewing on small devices.
The newest email will still show the full images within the banner and/or signature.
Are there any exceptions?
Yes there are a few exceptions you may encounter.
If you or your email recipient is using Mac (Apple) Mail and/or the native email application on an iPhone you will notice that the images are removed from the mail but the image name (e.g. RSImage.jpg) is inserted in its place. Unfortunately this is an action of the email client and not controlled by the Rocketseed application.
If you are using Entourage as your email client, the old image will be removed, but the tracker link that the image used will be printed in the email body.
If you are using Lotus Notes as your email client, the images will not be removed on all email chains as Lotus Notes rewrites the email in such a way that the images are not always identifiable as Rocketseed branded images. And to avoid accidentally removing other images from the email chain, the image removal is bypassed.
Are there any email clients that never remove old images?
Yes there are two, not very widely used, email clients that do not support the removal of old images in email chains. These email clients are Netscape Mail and Opera Mail.
My settings are not to remove old images but they have been removed
There are a couple of instances where your “Preserve my old images” setting will be overwritten and images removed from the mail chain anyway. These two scenarios are as follows:
If you or your email recipient reply to your mail using Mac (Apple) Mail and/or the native email application on and iPhone. As described above, these two email clients remove the images and replace them with the image name.
If you are communicating with another client of Rocketseed whose settings are to remove old images. The two settings counteract each other and images in the mail chain may be removed as a result.
